Deb and Gary are pleased to offer a new series of workshops for fall and winter 2014-15. We're very excited to get workshops rolling after a summer off, and we're looking forward to spending some time with students at Local 64. We've also upgraded our system so you can register online! COLLEGE ESSAY 3 Mondays Oct 27-Nov 10 Cost $75
The college application essay is all about telling your story. But how you tell that story is critical. Whether you traveled to Mongolia or never left the state, did Habitat for Humanity or cleaned your room, ate a cricket or an Oreo, that story, however exotic or mundane, is unique. During this workshop we will explore what it means to take risks on the page, and to tell your story with economy, skill, and authenticity.
SCREENWRITING 6 Mondays Nov 17-Dec 22 Cost $150
Do you have an idea for a killer screenplay? Do you want to learn the secrets all Hollywood scriptwriters know? Then come join us for this hands on workshop. We'll use popular films as the starting point for learning the screenplay's three-act structure. plot points, scenes, and sequencing. We'll address the role of dialogue and action in moving a scene forward, write scenes using standard industry format, and develop original screenplays.
FICTION 6 Mondays Jan5-Feb 9 Cost $150
Writing great fiction means crafting a world that is not real, but is completely believable. In this six-week workshop, you’ll learn fictional techniques for building compelling story plots and creating three-dimensional characters. You'll discover the secret to writing vivid scenes and riveting dialogue. And you'll learn why the best lies often start with simple truths. Based on your own interests, you'll apply what you've learned to your own short stories, novels, or even graphic novels.
